No place for drunkards

BIG BOOZERS won’t even make it to the front gate this July Race Carnival, with organisers, police and liquor licensing joining forces to keep the lid on drunken behaviour.

Representatives from the NSW Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing (OLGR) met with the Grafton Liquor Accord yesterday to discuss strategies for next month’s event.

Coffs Clarence Duty Officer Inspector Murray Gillett also attended the meeting and said responding to the NSW Racing’s decision to permit under-18s to the Grafton Cup day would be “critical” but that there would be more officers on hand on Thursday, July 12 to clamp down on bad behaviour.

“Before they even get to the front gate of the races we’ll be identifying people that need to be removed,” Insp Gillett said.
