NightRider Bus Services Coming to an End

The last regular NightRider Christmas/New Year holiday bus services are due to finish this Saturday (January 28) but a special service will be running on Saturday, February 11, to take people home from the Rabbitohs v Warriors NRL pre-season game at BCU International Stadium.

The Woolgoolga NightRider bus from Empire Kebabs at 2.15am via East Coffs on Saturday, January 28, will be the final service. All other holiday services have now ceased running.

For the NRL game on February 11, there will be regular passenger services to the Stadium prior to the match.

After the game, there will be special NRL NightRider shuttle services leaving at 8.45pm from BCU International Stadium. The routes include:

    Stadium to Park Avenue.
Stadium to First Avenue in Sawtell, the IGA at Boambee East and Centro Toormina.
Stadium to Woolgoolga via Moonee, Emerald and Sandy Beach.

All information about the NRL NightRider, as well as ticket purchasing details and pre-game entertainment, are available on Council’s website at: www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/NRL2012

“The NightRider service has, once again, been very well patronised over the holidays – particularly the Northern Beaches route which has regularly been running two services most weeks,” said Anne Shearer, Council’s Transport and Road Safety Officer.

“The aim of the service has always been to help cut malicious damage and drink drive offences – and it has proved to be very successful over the years in achieving this goal.

“NightRider has been running for the past eight years as a Council Crime Prevention Initiative in partnership with the Department of Justice and Attorney General. It has been supported by Roads and Maritime Services (formerly the RTA), the Local Liquor Accord and the Community Drug Action Team.

“But – despite its success – after the February service we have no more funding for the operation of Nightrider and so we won’t be able to offer this safe and cheap transport option for any more special events or during the holidays unless we can get more funding. We will be actively looking for more funds, but unfortunately there are no guarantees.”
