Host responsibility finalists to be judged

Northland’s hosts with the most will be known shortly, with judging to find the region’s most responsible licensed premises about to be finalised.

Now in its seventh year, the Whangarei Accord Host Responsibility Awards recognises and rewards on and off licences that are deemed to have outstanding service and demonstrate excellence in host responsibility.

Parua Bay Tavern, Poroti Tavern, Red Pizzeria and Split Bar and Restaurant are vying for the top spot in the on licence section while Cactus Liquor, Otaika Liquorland and Regent New World are nominated for the off licence section.

Judges have been visiting the nominated outlets from last month and are due to compete their judging on January 31. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in March.

Premises are judged on how they meet their responsibilities under the Sale of Liquor Act.

Accord co-ordinator Linda Nash said most of the region’s licensed premises have differing customer bases, which made choosing winners of the awards difficult.

While most establishments were complying with their legal requirements, competition judges were looking for the premises that demonstrated consistent and overall excellence in host responsibility.
