Police, council, licensees unite

PREVENTING drunks from misbehaving in the Whitsundays was the main focus of yesterday’s liquor accord meeting between Whitsunday police and licensees in the main street of Airlie Beach.

Whitsunday Police Station acting senior sergeant Brad Teys said police were addressing issues as part of a long term approach to the problem.

“We hope to initiate a system where licensed venues can have a member of staff or security who can be solely responsible for RSA and can identify people suffering from being drunk prior to committing offences or having to be removed from premises,” he said.
