Working together on safety issues

The Bathurst Regional Community Safety Committee held its first meeting this week.

In coming months members of the committee will be working on various projects, including providing information for residents and businesses on how to keep themselves and their property safe, a party safe initiative, and the feasibility of CCTV in Bathurst.

The group comprises representatives of NSW Police – Chifley Area Command and PCYC, Bathurst Business Chamber, BINC, Bathurst Liquor Accord, CSU, Western NSW Local Health and Bathurst Regional Council.

These key stakeholders will work together to address issues identified in the Bathurst Region Community Safety Plan.

Mayor Greg Westman will chair the committee, which has already identified five priority projects listed in the Community Safety Plan.

“Community safety is everyone’s responsibility, and from the discussion and commitment shown today, there are exciting projects that the community will benefit from in both the short and long term,” Cr Westman said.

“The committee is particularly excited at the prospect of tailoring a party safe program to Bathurst.

“The recent National Binge Drinking Strategy Community Grant secured by council and its partners will form a key component of this initiative,” he said.
