Takeaway grog initiative helps cut crime

Newman police are working with the Newman Liquor Accord to reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents in the town.

Senior Sergeant Shane Sadler says liquor outlets have agreed to refuse to sell takeaway alcohol to people on foot.

He says the strategy has been in place for about a month.

Sergeant Sadler says it has reduced the number of people loitering in the centre of town drinking alcohol.
