Stonnington Liquor Accord Forum
The City of Stonnington will be holding its first Liquor Accord Forum on Thursday 23 February 2012 at Functions On Chapel from 3pm – 5pm.
The Liquor Accord is a partnership between key groups in the City of Stonnington that share a common goal for safe and well managed environments at licensed venues.
City of Stonnington Mayor Cr John Chandler said ‘Since commencing in 2004, the Stonnington Liquor Accord has established a reputation in Victoria as one of the leading liquor accords, setting an example for how licensed premises, Responsible Alcohol Victoria, Victoria Police and Council can work together to responsibly manage alcohol and reduce alcohol-related incidents in the city’.
The Stonnington Liquor Accord aims to:
Encourage and implement best practice in the management of licensed premises;
Promote responsible standards of behaviour by patrons and protect their safety; and
Maintain high standards of behaviour in and around licensed premises.
At the forum, the updated Stonnington Liquor Accord Action Plan will be launched. The Action Plan provides a blueprint for Accord members to deliver innovative solutions and best practice in venue management.
Also at the forum, keynote speaker, Dr Belinda Lloyd, a Senior Research Fellow from Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre, will speak on licit and illicit drug use and harms in Melbourne.
‘This is an important community issue and I encourage owners, operators and staff of licensed premises to come and hear Dr Lloyd speak.
‘Given Council’s push to establish mandatory controls for Chapel Street licensed venues, a position strongly endorsed by the State Government with its recent decision to implement changes to the Planning Scheme, it is timely that we continue to work together to reduce alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour in our city’, added Cr Chandler.
