Discretion to be used in new liquor laws

The Cobar Liquor Accord supports new blanket alcohol-free zones across town, but concedes teething problems will arise as people adjust to new restrictions.

Liquor Accord chairman Damian Wray said he supported the new restrictions, which came into effect last Wednesday, but said police must use discretion in enforcing the changes.

New restrictions give police powers to confiscate alcohol from people found drinking in streets within town limits – except for parks and recreational areas that permit alcohol consumption within daytime hours.
