Agreement curtails miners behaving badly
As Newcrests’ mines Cadia East extension nears completion, and the contractors begin to wrap and leave town, can the community expect less alcohol fuelled bad behaviour?
So concerned, was the local miner about the behaviour of some of their contractors and employees, it entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Orange Police and Liquor Accord to address the problem.
Orange police superintendent David Driver says, " It was a proactive step on the part of Newcrest… who give education packages to contractors and staff about behaving appropriately".
Bill Kelly, chairman of the Orange Liquor Accord says, "there has been a reduction of alcohol related violence in licensed premises over the last six months".
