Strategy to tackle alcohol-related crime

JOONDALUP pub and club-goers can expect a bigger police presence inside licensed premises under a soon-to-be-introduced Joondalup liquor accord.

A liquor accord is an agreement between licensees and local authorities to take action in reducing alcohol-related crime in entertainment districts.

It will be the first time the strategy has been used in Joondalup.

It is expected to begin in September.

Under the plans, an accord book would be left at the back of every CBD bar, with police required to sign it after patrolling the premises. Joondalup police boss Chris Ruck, who is heading the initiative, said police would be engaging with as many staff members and patrons as possible.
